Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake celebrates the end of summer and helps kids get back in gear for school with the annual Back to School Bash. The Back to School Bash was held on Saturday August 9th at the Hazel Outdoor Discovery Center. The event was sponsored by Courtesy Chevrolet & Cadillac of Salisbury and donations were brought in from PNC Bank, BNI, Crazy Louie’s Pawn Shop, Michael’s Arts and Crafts Store and the Delmarva Discovery. The event was chaired by Eastern Shore Advisory Board member, Josh Nordstrom. The Nordstrom family and some of the staff volunteered to help make the event a success. DJBK from Ocean 98.1 donated his time to the cause.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake welcomed families and mentoring matches in the program and other programs across the entire Eastern Shore. The Back to School Bash hosted nearly 150 people. The music was thumping as participants were jumping all day on the moon bounce. Burgers and hotdogs were enjoyed by all. Big Brothers Big Sisters had organized an obstacle course and several different relay races for kids to participate in. There was a lot of dancing by the DJ tent. Kids were enjoying s’mores while being warmed by the campfire. Many of the participants took to the pond with fishing poles. The event helped children get back in school spirit for the upcoming year, be active, socialize with one another and be a part of something BIG outside of their homes and schools.
All the children that attended the Back to School Bash left the event with a backpack stuffed with school supplies for the upcoming school year. More backpacks will be handed out throughout the Eastern Shore to children that are in need.
Since 1952, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake has existed to help children reach their fullest potential. Learn how you can positively impact a child’s life, donate, or volunteer at www.biglittle.org.
