Employees of The Talbot Bank, a member of Shore Bancshares community of companies, proudly participated in “Teach Children to Save Day” which is supported by the American Bankers Association and celebrated on April 11th. “Teach Children to Save Day” is an annual event where bankers volunteer to trade their spreadsheets for chalkboards and teach the ABC’s of financial literacy at elementary schools across the nation. The program started in 1997 with the intention to provide students with a clear and thorough understanding of the basic concepts of how to save money and why it is important to do so. The Talbot Bank has been an active participant for many years. Bank employees took the message this year to 11 Talbot and Dorchester County schools over the course of three days, April 8-10th.
The following Talbot Bank employees each volunteered this year: Lorraine Secrist, Dawn Henckel, Mary Brower, Amy Hutchison, Brenda Wooden, Lauren Lindsay, Laura Heikes, Joyce Malik, Wendy Buckler, Amber Harrison, Joan Dyott, Mike Loftus, Parker Spurry, Tiffany Knight, Ryan Snow, Kristin Lane, Lynnell Ennals, Dawn Brode, and Jen Willey. They visited Choptank, Sandy Hill, Hurlock, and South Dorchester elementary schools in Dorchester County; as well as St. Michaels, White Marsh, Chapel District, Tilghman, Easton, Saints Peter and Paul, and Chesapeake Christian elementary schools in Talbot County.
Together, Talbot Bank employees presented to over 29 third grade classes, reaching over 540 students. “We look forward to participating in ‘Teach Children to Save Day’ every year,” said Dawn Henckel, Assistant Branch Manager at the St. Michaels branch of The Talbot Bank. “We believe that teaching children about money and savings is a crucial part of providing our youth with a superior education.” The Talbot Bank encourages families to be involved with their children’s financial education and to reach out to Talbot Bank employees for assistance and options to begin saving. Visit your local branch or talbot-bank.com for more savings information.
