Soprano Victoria (Tori) Gomez, a junior at St. Michaels High School, is shown in the massed choir during the final Honors Choral Performance of the 2019 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City during February 7-11. She was one of 700 students nationwide selected from more than 18,000 applicants for the prestigious program, which includes study under master conductors, working on an advanced level with other finalists, and enjoying a taste of New York City, which in her case included attending the Broadway musical, “Wicked,” and going on a tour of Times Square. Part of her expenses was paid by a scholarship from the Artistic Insights Fund of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation.
Tori’s other recent musical activities include singing in the SMMHS Chorus directed by Amy Effler, who also was the one who recommended her for HPS.Tori also played Natalie Haller in the recent SMMHS student production of “All Shook Up,” and is serving as a cantor for Saints Peter and Paul Church. The daughter of Victoria Gomez Lozano of Easton, she was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and moved to the United States when she was five years old.
