Tidewater Rotary welcomed speakers from the Talbot County Public Schools Education Foundation (TCPSEF) at its May 22nd club meeting at Brookletts Place, in Easton. Rotarian Debbie Gardner, Talbot County Public Schools Director of Communications, and David Short, TCPS Education Foundation Board Chair, shared the history, mission, and vision of the organization.
Founded in 2016, in partnership with the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, the TCPS Education Foundation’s mission is to support public education in Talbot County by raising and distributing funds to fulfill needs and opportunities inspired by TCPS educators and students. They strive to ensure that all needs of TCPS educators and students are fulfilled and that opportunities in education are unlimited. The Foundation funds teacher grants for classroom supplies, professional development, field trips, internships, early reading programs, and more. Through business and private donations, revenue earned by the Foundation’s endowment, and community partnerships, the Foundation has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in Talbot County Public Schools for individual grants, classrooms, entire schools, and district-wide initiatives. Community funding is critical to the ongoing success of the Foundation’s efforts to provide much-needed money for things otherwise unfunded through regular governmental allocations.
The need for the involvement of Talbot County residents and businesses is greater than ever, especially given the potential trickle-down effect of recent Federal budget cuts. For more on the Talbot County Public Schools Education Foundation, visit tcpsef.org.
