Voices Will Raise in Support of Talbot Interfaith Shelter on August 8

July 26, 2019 by Spy Desk

Prepare for a transcendent experience as you lift your voice in song with your neighbors at the Blue Crab in St. Michaels on the evening of August 8th. Talbot Sings to benefit Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS) is back for its third year, and it is shaping up to be the most inspiring event yet!

Each year, TIS invites musicians to lead our community in singing an uplifting song. Local videographers capture the event on camera, and produce a beautiful video of the song, which will be shared with the community at large to help raise awareness for TIS’ mission of ending homelessness on the Mid-Shore by providing Shelter, Stability, Support, and a path to Success for families and individuals in need.

This year’s song is the ever-inspirational “Stand By Me,” and event participants will be led by members of Christ Church Easton’s “Walk In Love” choir, conducted by talented local musician Ray Remesch.

The evening begins at 6:00 pm, when participants will have the opportunity to learn about TIS’ S4 Program (Shelter, Stability, Support, Success) and have a brief Q&A session. After the Q&A, the fun begins – there will be a few practice takes, and then it’s time to “roll tape” and capture the magic on video!

Last year’s Talbot Sings event featured local musicians Justin Ryan, Anna Burgess, and Emma Myers. Ryan was particularly moved by his experience at Talbot Sings and what he learned while participating, and has since become an ardent advocate for TIS and its mission.

He says, “I was honored to perform in last year’s Talbot Sings event. It certainly was an unforgettable moment, both musically and spiritually. It was at this event that I was able to learn about the amazing things that TIS is doing for our community. After hearing many stories of how the shelter has helped so many get back on their feet, I was inspired to get involved myself.“

Participants are asked to bring a $10 minimum donation in support of the shelter’s mission. Talbot Sings 2019 is presented by Wells Fargo Advisors Easton, Willow Construction, On Your Mark Lighting, and Eat Sprout.

TIS is a 501(c)3 organization based in Easton and serving Talbot County and the surrounding areas. The organization has developed the S4 Program, which is designed to guide families and individuals from homelessness to sustainable financial independence. Once guests are accepted into their shelter facility, a former bed and breakfast called Easton’s Promise, they receive case management as they move through an individualized plan. They also participate in educational programming, including classes in parenting, budgeting, health, nutritional cooking, and more. Once they reach a certain level of financial stability, they are invited to move into one of the shelter’s eight subsidized transitional apartments, where they incrementally take over expenses until they are fully self-sufficient.

Their vision is that no one in Talbot County will ever have to spend a night on the streets, in a car or in the woods because he or she cannot find housing.
