March 30th 1975. Where were you on that date? Were you born yet? Were you at work? Were you at home going about your day? Well, on that day, the war in Vietnam concluded its 20-year tenure, and the last remaining US troops came home from Vietnam.
During those 20 years almost 59,000 men and women serving their country perished, along with thousands upon thousands wounded and MIA (missing in action).
It was one of the most unpopular events in our country’s modern history and the American soldier bore the brunt of our nations scorn for it.
Since 1975, we have started to realize and recognize that these brave Americans did not merit the anger and frustration directed toward them for many years. And now we realize that our thanks, for a job well done, is overdue and well deserved.
There will be a parade on Sunday, March 30th at 1PM in front of the monuments at the Courthouse, there will be a short ceremony at that time then the parade. It will go from the intersection of Washington and Dover and continue up to Glebe Road into the VFW.
Upon arrival, numerous events will be held inside the VFW to commemorate the day.
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #648 and VFW Post #5118 invites the entire Mid Shore population to come out and line the streets to Welcome Home our Veterans and partake in this commemorative event.
So, bring your chairs and cheers and welcome them home!!
