Winefest at St. Michaels A Huge Success

May 1, 2012 by Kathy Bosin

Winefest at St. Michaels 2012 was a resounding success for some 2500 guests, visitors and volunteers who filled the streets of St. Michaels for this much-loved spring event. Unlike years past when the event was held in one location, in recent years, the new Winefest encompasses most of St. Michaels. Wandering through the streets of the town, guests tasted food and wines at 7 different pouring venues, and VIP tasting cruises aboard the Patriot were offered throughout the weekend as well.

Online tickets were sold out early in the week before the festival, and local traffic was slowed both Saturday and Sunday as the streets were packed with festive oenophiles.

Local award winning chefs including David McCallum, Chef and Owner of the Tilghman Island Inn, Jordan Lloyd from Bartlett Pear, Harley Peet from Theo’s Steaks and Sides, Adam Sanders from Jules in Ocean City demonstrated their famous dishes to hungry crowds, and people lined up for samples. Wine dinners were offered at several local restaurants.

Beneficiaries of this year’s event were local charities including The St. Michaels Food Bank, The St. Michaels Community Center, The Benedictine School and Project Healing Waters – an organization that serves disabled veterans through fly-fishing and fly tying education and outings.
