Editor’s note: As Talbot County moves into the slow summer days of August, the Spy thought it would be a good time to catch up with the members of the Easton Town Council on the year so far. Over the next five weeks, we will be presenting these informal conversations where Council members talk about growth, development, annexation, and other quality of life issues that impact the city and the people they represent.
While Easton Town Council president John Ford has no problem saying that he’s a “come here” from a small town in Wisconsin, the fact remains that he and his family have been here for over fifty years. In fact, with the exception of a few years out of town to attend Towson University, Ford, unlike many of his peers, has made Talbot County and Easton his home for his entire adult life.
And a good bit of that time has been spent working on local issues. Starting with his appointment at the Planning and Zoning Commission almost twenty years ago, and holding the position of Town Council President for the last decade, John has been intimately involved in almost very issue impacting this town he loves.
In his Spy interview, he talks about the unique role of council president, the process of zoning and annexation, downtown revitalization, town cultural diversity, the Talbot Boys and the role of civility in political debate.

Every time I hear John speak I feel more hopeful.
