Gloria Young, 13 of Easton, MD won first place for both of the Pre-Bronze pattern ice dances at the prestigious 83rd Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships on August 1, 2015 in Lake Placid, New York. Gloria finishes the United States Figure Skating National Solo Dance Series- Eastern Section in 2nd place out of 14 competitors, with an automatic double qualification to Nationals this September in Lansing, Michigan.
The top six competitors in each of the three regions, Eastern, Midwestern, and West, qualify for Nationals on September 23-26, 2015, and those with three outright first place wins. Lake Placid was Gloria Young’s fourth outright first place win in the Pre-Bronze Solo Pattern Ice Dance event. Gloria won Gold medals at: 2015 Skating Club of NY Solo Dance Competition, East Meadow, NY, The Chesapeake Open, Laurel, MD, 2015 Skate Wilmington Competition, Wilmington, DE and at the Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships, Lake Placid, NY. Gloria also received a silver medal, and two bronze medals in the series and she landed on the podium during every competition in which she participated.
Gloria Young is also the only Maryland resident to qualify for the Solo Ice Dance Nationals in her event, and the only Eastern Shore resident in the US National Solo Dance Series.
Gloria trains at and represents the IceWorks Skating Club, located in Aston, Pennsylvania as there is no year round training facility nor a United States Figure Skating Club on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The IceWorks facility is the largest skating facility in the Eastern Shore tri-state area, with dedicated ice time specific for ice dance training at the four rink facility. Gloria trained in Aston, PA 20 hours per week and at the Pond Ice Arena in Newark, DE for an additional 4 hours each week this summer, and will continue to train 12 hours per week this fall, while attending Saints Peter and Paul High School in Easton, MD. She will also utilize private practice ice before school, at the Talbot County Community Center during their seasonal ice from September to March.
Gloria Young is the daughter of Val D’Ambrosio and Mike Young and she is coached by: Leif Gislason, International Canadian Champion Ice Dancer, Cheryl Demkowski-Snyder International/Worlds Coach, Kim Seybold-Catron 1988 US Olympian (Pairs), and her freedance testing partner/coach is Pasha Filchenkov, former US Senior Ice Dancer. Gloria’s Easton, MD off-ice trainers and instructors are: Mark Cuviello, Fitness RX, Hugo Guzman Hernandez, People’s Choice Winner – Dancing with the Dogs, Amanda Showell -Dancing on the Shore and Katy Miles of Tidewater Gymnastics.
