The Rotary Club of Easton recently presented donations totaling approximately $30,000 from their Youth and Community Fund to community organizations. The funds were from the club’s fourth annual “Flags for Heroes” project completed in May, 2015.
The “Flags for Heroes” project provides community members an opportunity to honor their personal heroes, including family members, friends, veterans, active members of the armed forces, police officers and firefighters, by sponsoring an American flag in their honor or memory. Donations were made to 15 organizations, many of which provide services to veterans. Those organizations who received funds from the Rotary Club of Easton were Spring Hill Cemetery; Historic Cemeteries of Easton, Inc.; Easton Civil Air Patrol, a volunteer organization and an official auxiliary of the United States Air Force that follows a military style program for cadets ages 12-21 who are interested in entering, enlisted or if they pursue military academy or ROTC scholarship opportunities; Easton High School NJROTC; the Chesapeake College Foundation, who received funding to assist with veterans’ education; Easton Volunteer Fire Department; Easton Police Department; Talbot Hospice, who received specific funding for veterans spending their last days at Talbot Hospice House; Talbot County Mental Health Association and For All Seasons, Inc., both of which received funding to assists Eastern Shore veterans in need; Mid-Shore Recovering Veterans Group; Operation Open Arms, an organization that provides service men and women suffering from PTSD with vacations to Talbot County; the Talbot County Paramedic Foundation; American Legion Caroline Post 79; and Bay Hundred Community Volunteers, Inc., for its efforts to provide veterans with home repairs and modifications.
