Jan Kirsh Studio, a full-service landscape design and sculpture studio, is pleased to announce that Jan Kirsh’s sculptures have been selected for exhibition at the Gay Street Gallery, located at 337 Gay Street, Washington, VA 22747. The exhibition will run June 10 – August 14, 2017 with a public opening reception on June 10. This will be Kirsh’s first exhibition in the state. For more information visit www.gaystreetgallery.com
Featured works will include her new Patricia’s Carrots and Pomegranate Halves, both of which were unveiled last fall at her solo exhibit at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis, Maryland. Also on display will be Kirsh’s popular Tomato Partners series and – with a nod to America’s first president and the town of Washington’s namesake – a small, eye-catching Cherry. Her work will be displayed in the historic, Gay Street Gallery building and on the outside porch.
Jan said she couldn’t ask for a better debut in Virginia. “I’m excited at the prospect of showing my contemporary fruit and vegetable sculptures at Gay Street Gallery. It’s a fabulous location, often frequented by guests of the Inn at Little Washington. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be among the notable, gifted artists who have had the distinct honor of showing their work at the gallery.”
Kirsh’s work will be on display alongside that of artist, Ruthie Windsor-Mann, who will exhibit a series of paintings that feature the Rappahannock County and Blue Ridge Mountains. Also on exhibit will be the art of Gallery owner, Kevin Adams, who will present an all-Virginia collection of work, including both his popular mountain forest scenes and classic Virginia architecture set in the landscape of the Commonwealth.
Upcoming & Ongoing Sculpture Exhibits
Jan’s vibrant fruit and vegetable sculptures have already become iconic landmarks in the Maryland arts community, and she is excited to bring her whimsical forms elsewhere in the country. Jan’s Aubergine sculpture was selected for the Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center Outdoor Exhibit to be displayed in an enclosed garden courtyard from April 7 – October 8, 2017. A six foot version of Jan Kirsh’s Pear was installed in early September at the George Howard Building in Ellicott City, along with another large sculpture, Patricia’s Carrots (installed in August) on display at Howard County Center for the Arts. Both were chosen for ART sites 2016, a year-long, outdoor, public art exhibit presented by the Howard County Arts Council to increase community access to the arts in Howard County. Her sculptures are also on continuous exhibit at the Bartlett Pear Inn and Academy Art Museum (Easton, Maryland) and on the Eastern Shore of Virginia at Red Queen Gallery (Onancock, Virginia), and Ellen Moore Gallery (Cape Charles, Virginia).
