Very few things makes one more encouraged about the Mid-Shore’s ability to solve community social challenges than news that two important organizations have formed a partnership to address these concerns. In this case, the Talbot County Commission on the Aging has become partners with Chesapeake College to sponsor series of speaking engagements for senior citizens and their families.
The Spy caught up with Jennifer Marchi, chair of the Commission on Aging, and Crystel Farina from Chesapeake College to take about this initiative.
The series, entitled “Plan Well, Live Well: Navigating Your Senior Years,” began this summer and will continue through June 2017, highlighting a different topic and speaker each month.
The October sessions, entitled Talbot Village Connections: Neighbors Helping Neighbors, will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at the Talbot County Senior Center/ Brookletts Place, 400 Brookletts Avenue, Easton; and on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church, 201 Railroad Avenue, St. Michaels.
Future topics include: Mental Health for Seniors; Family Caregivers and Dementia; How to Advocate for Yourself in the Hospital; End of Life Planning; Medication Management; and Guardianship. The dates, times and locations for the additional sessions will be announced as the series moves forward. Each topic will have multiple sessions approximately an hour long, with one session each month being recorded for future distribution via DVD and on the Spy for broadcast later this year.
