Recently, the Oxford Community Center commemorated the 70th anniversary of the June 6, 1944, D-Day invasion of the French coast by the Allies which led ultimately to the end of World War II in Europe.
The program began with a presentation of the Colors by Easton High School’s NJROTC unit and an appreciative acknowledgement of all veterans in the audience. Dr. Craig Symonds, Professor Emeritus at the United States Naval Academy, delivered a fascinating talk on his new book, “Neptune: The Allied Invasion of Europe and the D-Day Landings,” followed by a stimulating question and answer period.
Dr. Symonds has written a number of award-winning books, and his latest work has received very positive reviews, including the verbal appreciation of the D-Day program attendees. An esteemed military historian, author, and speaker, Dr. Symonds served as master of ceremonies for the D-Day Commemoration at the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC, the day after his presentation in Oxford.
OCC concluded its D-Day Commemoration with a screening of the classic all-star D-Day film, “The Longest Day.”
