Seven TCPS elementary students participated in Sodexo’s Future Chef Competition. Students were selected for their healthy breakfast recipe submissions and asked to prepare their recipe to be sampled by a distinguished panel of four judges, Superintendent Kelly Griffith, TCPS Board President Michael Garman, Sodexo District Manager George Higley and TCPS Director of Finance Charles Connolly.
Sodexo, the company that manages TCPS food service and cafeterias, created the national Future Chef program to get students thinking about making healthy food choices while encouraging children to get active and creative in the kitchen.
Students worked with district Sodexo staff to prepare their own recipes which were then judged on originality, taste, presentation, kid friendliness, and use of healthy ingredients.
George Higley, Sodexo District Manager, stated “The competition was very close and the kids did an outstanding job!”
When the votes were in, Mariana Kilmon from St. Michaels Elementary won first place, Arman Hinduja from White Marsh Elementary, placed second, and Braden Eismann from Chapel District Elementary placed third. Mariana’s recipe will move to the Future Chef Regional Competition.
Winners received a gift basket full of culinary utensils and some herb gardens. All participants received a certificate of achievement and a Global Cooking for kids cookbook.
Here are few a few shots from the event.
