Talbot Historical Society Project Rewind: Horse Crossing Just Ahead

September 16, 2022 by Talbot Historical Society

This photograph, originally from the H. Robins Hollyday collection, was also featured in Maryland Time Exposures: 1840-1940 by Mame Warren and Marion E. Warren. This comprehensive and visually stunning book was compiled by the daughter and father duo in 1984. Through their diligent efforts and after scouring all over Maryland for long forgotten photographs at many colleges, libraries, and historical societies, such as the Talbot Historical Society, this 333 page book shows what life in Maryland was like almost 200 years ago. This particular photo is of horses and carriages crossing the Miles River on a ferry and the caption reads, “A Cause for Profanity, 1913”.

As always, if you have any more information about the photograph, please let us know at [email protected]. Our office and research hours are Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10am to 3pm. Our exhibits are open on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm.
