Letter to Editor: Send Planning Commissions a Message on Poplar Hill Development

May 11, 2023 by Letter to Editor

Share

At this point in time, our local communities are faced with two clear choices:  (1) maintaining our rural way of life or (2) succumbing to urban sprawl.

Lane Engineering’s May 18 agenda request entails a growth allocation/reclassification of 65.977 acres — more than half of the Poplar Hill Farm developer’s property — from a Resource Conservation Area (RCA) to an Intensely Developed Area (IDA).  Approval of this request will inevitably result in increased vehicular traffic, higher residential and commercial density, and further endangerment of our natural environment.
The Commission’s approval will also embolden others in favor of urban development to chip away at the protections afforded by the 1984 Critical Area Act and 1986 Critical Area Criteria, existing PUD’s and our Town’s Comprehensive Plan.
If others who oppose the Poplar Hill Farm project were unable to attend last month’s joint Talbot County and Easton Planning Commissions meeting, I encourage them to send an email or letter to the Town of Easton Planning Commission ([email protected]; 14 S. Harrison Street, Easton, MD 21601) before May 18.

Hey. great. thank you for the idea. I’ve sent an email to the Town of Easton Planning Commission encouraging Popular Hill because this area badly needs growth. It’s ironic how those that oppose growth came to the area when it’s likely others did not want you here, but you came anyway. Lighten up.

Thank you for the email address, Clara. I did attend the presentation at the Avalon and I also just sent an email to the Planning Commission urging them to vote against this reclassification. We all must do everything we can to stop our critical areas from being violated if we want to see our Bay survive.

Brenda, it’s easy to say NO. Please suggest an alternative. Thank you.

Taking 65 acres out of critical areas and reclassifying it for high-density development would be criminal dereliction of duty by a “Planning Commission”. What’s the point of having “Critical Areas” if you can build high density housing or a shopping center on them?

Hi Jerry, Criminal? Please suggest an alternative. Thank you.
