The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project Sunday, May 21, to improve the pavement on a section of eastbound US 50 (Ocean Gateway) from MD 404 (Queen Anne Highway) to MD 662 (Longwoods Road) in Talbot County. The project encompasses about 4.5 miles and should be complete by the end of June, weather permitting.
The work will be performed overnight to help minimize traffic impacts, and will include milling, patching, paving and striping. Crews will work 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning, Sunday through Thursday nights. Motorists should expect single-lane closures during work times.
The area being repaved includes the site of the recent roadwork to repair a void under US 50 caused by a damaged underground drainage pipe. That repair project was completed May 8, and the repaving will provide a new, smoother surface in that area.
Contractor David A. Bramble Inc., of Chestertown, will use signs, cones and barrels to safely guide drivers through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience to some motorists and will cause overnight delays, but the work is necessary to preserve the pavement for years to come. Safety in work zones is critical for our crews as well as motorists. Drivers are asked to be patient, stay alert, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
