Jacqueline Ffaff-Pratt will be teaching a one-day class on oil pastels at Talbot County Visual Arts Ctr., Jacqueline is a retired New York State art teacher who has won many awards and honors for her work. She believes oil pastel is a medium that is often overlooked as a means to create. It was created in the 1940s for Pablo Picasso by Sennelier. He asked for oil paints to be made into a Crayon – like form.
Oil pastels are made with oil paint and a little bit of wax so they are a more solid medium. Oil pastels are a fun and challenging way to make art. The class will be covering different use of papers, boards, the pros and cons of different brands, and technique and skills. The students will try many of the different papers available, learn techniques for use and take home a started piece of art.
The class will be held at the arts center on Saturday, March 10, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. The cost for members is $50 and for nonmembers $65.
The art center is located in Talbot Town Shopping Plaza behind Piazza Italian Market on the side street. Parking is available. To register visit our website www.talbot-art-center.org for a registration form, come to the arts center and pick one up or call 433850411 and one will be mailed to you. A materials list will be provided upon registration. This class is partly sponsored by the Tolbert County arts Council and Maryland State arts Council.
