Marie Martin and Ann Borders should be elected St Michaels Town Commissioners on May 7. They bring a combination of real business experience and an important vision for the future of St. Michaels. Let’s give credit where credit is due: it was Ann’s financial analysis that resulted in lowering the property tax rate by 22% over two years. And it was Marie who spearheaded efforts to revitalize Muskrat Park. When citizens lead, government officials will eventually follow.
Ann and Marie understand the fiduciary responsibility that rests with Commissioners—providing necessary services in an effective and competitive manner. We need Marie and Ann’s experience and vision in these economic times.

St. Michaels
Walda DuPriest-Brandt says
On this beautiful May day, Marie Martin, candidate for St. Michaels Commissioner, is busy. She is not campaigning on the last weekend prior to the election. Rather,Marie is working on a community event that she created while president of the St. Michaels Museum. For the second consecutive year, she has developed and coordinated a Civil War re-enactment in town, a living classroom experience for town citizens and visitors. Civil War re-enactors have camped on St. Mary’s Square and will be drilling, meeting the public and talking about life as a soldier. They will visit the farmers’ market, the CBMM during its Frederick Douglass Day and tonight will have a typical supper at Muskrat Park followed by authentic music of the period and dancing.
This is only one example of Marie’s signigicant contributions to this community. In addition to serving as president of the Small Business Assoc. she has served as a volunteer on town commissions and other organizations. She is actively involved in community issues and attends commissioner meetings on a consistent basis. She does all of this in addition to running her own business.
Marie knows St. Michaels as well or better than most of the other candidates. She has a true understanding of what community means, and as this weekend demonstrates, puts service above self-interest. She has a true interest in other people and is a an intelligent, educated person who exemplifies the ideal candidate for the commission.
I would challenge the incumbents to identify what grassroots volunteer efforts they engage in as a participant rather than an observer.
Elect Marie Martin as commissioner and along with Ann Borders’ strong financial abilities, you will have a team that will well serve us all.
