Delmarva Review Announces Pushcart Prize Nominations

December 3, 2012 by Spy Desk

The Delmarva Review honored six authors with nominations for a Pushcart Prize for their 2012 poetry, fiction and nonfiction. Pushcart editors invite selected nominations annually from literary journals and small presses for the prestigious national awards.

Nominations from The Delmarva Review were published in its fifth annual edition. Final selections in the national competition will be published next fall in an anthology, Pushcart Prize, Best of the Small Presses XXXVIII.

Poetry nominations include “On International Waters,” by Meredith Davies Hadaway, of  Chestertown, “Sortes Alabamae,” by Temple Cone, of Annapolis,  “Summa mathematica,” by Leslie Harrison, of Baltimore, and “Skyline,” by Katy Didden, of St. Louis, Missouri.

“Writing Rwanda,” an essay by Lee Slater, was nominated for nonfiction. Ms. Slater is from Norfolk, Virginia.

A short story, “Fire from a Distance,” by Margaret Moceri, of Grand Rapids, Michigan was nominated for fiction.

The Pushcart Prize has awarded outstanding literary work since 1976. It’s first collection featured short fiction by a young Ray Carver. Since then, Pushcart has discovered many talented new voices in literature.  A nomination is considered a literary achievement.

The Delmarva Review is published by the Eastern Shore Writers Association (ESWA), a nonprofit organization, to encourage literary writing and support the literary arts on the Delmarva Peninsula. The ESWA website is www.easternshorewriters.org.

The submission period for the sixth edition of the Review is open through February 28, 2013. Writers of fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry are encouraged to submit their best work. All writers are welcome, regardless of residence. A submission link is posted on the guidelines page of the website www.delmarvareview.com.

The current edition of the Review is available at regional libraries and the following bookstores: the News Center, in Easton, Mystery Loves Company, in Oxford, Creative Xpressions, in St. Michaels, the Annapolis Book Store, and The Writer’s Center, in Bethesda.

An order form for copies and two-year subscriptions is on the review’s website. A downloadable edition, for Kindle and digital reading devices, is available at Amazon.com.
