Golf Tournament to Benefit The Talbot Parent Coalition

April 8, 2014 by Mid-Shore Community Foundation

The 2014 “Prescription to Addiction” Awareness Golf Tournament – to be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 1 PM at the River House in Easton – will benefit the work being done by The Talbot Parent Coalition to provide Talbot County parents with the information and resources necessary to combat underage drug and alcohol use.

“One of the most insidious aspects of addiction is that it can start when teens have access to prescription drugs in the family medicine cabinet”, said Mary Kramer, Chairman of the Talbot Parent Coalition. “The path from prescription to drug use and addiction can be very short for teenagers; parents must be aware of this, and they need to prevent it. We provide the information and resources to deal with drug problems that our teenagers face.

“This community rallies in a major way whenever there is a crisis concerning their children and drugs. However, the further away we get from a crisis, the less concern there is. This cannot happen, because we are dealing with a 24/7 problem.”

As Circuit Court Judge Bo Earnest said recently: “Drug and Alcohol abuse is one of the most serious problems that we see in Circuit Court. I applaud the Talbot Parent Coalition in their efforts to provide resources and a community network to assist parents in addressing this issue as early as possible. I wish you the very best of luck with your Golf Tournament, and I hope the community will continue to support your efforts.”

“We are immensely grateful for the support we have had from the Talbot County Bar Association and all our other sponsors, donors, and community members such as Barry Cox, Talbot Partnership Board Member and retired educator at The Country School, and Susan Bohaker, avid golfer and retired teacher at The Country School,” Kramer said. “They are working diligently to make this event a success.”

Everyone is invited to participate in this exciting Tournament that can be enjoyed by all levels of golfers. Auction items include golf outings for four at Talbot Country Club in Easton and Harbourtowne Golf Resort in St. Michael’s.

The schedule for the tournament is as follows: 11:30 AM – Registration, lunch (provided; donated by Chick-fil-A, Ledo’s, and Jimmy Johns), and practice range opens. 1 PM – Tournament – shotgun start; scramble format. Silent auction throughout the day. 6 PM – Hors d’ouevres, awards, prizes, and silent auction closes.

The cost is $100 per player, includes round of golf, gift bag, lunch, hors d’oeuvres, and Tournament prizes. All proceeds benefit The Talbot Parent Coalition.

Further information and sponsorship opportunities are available here or by calling Mary Kramer at 410.725.6350.
