The “Y Talks” speaker series has become a mainstay in the community since its successful start in the Easton Family YMCA in the spring of 2014. The new 2015 goal for the program is to keep that momentum going by making it easier to fit the Speaker Series into your schedule. Under the new leadership of Executive Director of the Easton Branch, Derek White, the Y-Talks will now be every second Wednesday of the month at 10:30 AM and now FREE for members. ($12 for non-members) “We wanted to find a time slot that fit with when the audience was already at the YMCA. Moving the time and dropping the fee allows for more community members to attend a favorite class and stay for the Y-Talk, or come early for the Y-Talk and stay for a class. We didn’t want these special community conversations to be missed by anyone.”
Seeing the value of bringing the community together, local businessman Joe Landgraf of Joe’s Bagel Café generously agreed to sponsor the Y-Talks Speaker Series by providing light refreshments. “Knowing a hot coffee and snack is waiting for you by the fire makes it even easier for people to come together. It was an idea I wanted to support”
The first Y-Talk is Wednesday, February 11th featuring local filmmaker and theatre director Talley Wilford. His production team, TalleyWags, is gearing up for a film based on local student Matt Schilling’s passing from heroin addiction. The story is told through the precious memories Wilford has of his childhood friend and explores the pressures life puts on friends today.
The Y-Talks are held at the fireplace by the rock wall in the Thomas E. Hill Center for Youth Development, also known as the Teen Center. The Y-Talks speaker series brings intimate conversations to our local community. Join the conversation.
