It is time for spring cleaning, and Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy (MRC) is again recruiting local groups, businesses, and individuals to help clean up Midshore streams and rivers.
On April 2nd from 9AM to Noon, participants in Project Clean Stream will once again remove trash from local waterways. Throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed, thousands of people will participate in this annual event, which is one of the largest cleanup events in the Chesapeake Bay region, coordinated by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay.
MRC is organizing teams at dozens of locations in Talbot, Queen Anne’s, Dorchester, and Caroline Counties. Participating groups will include Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, The Country School, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Dorchester Citizens for Planned Growth, Easton High School, and many more.
During last year’s Project Clean Stream, approximately 300 volunteers worked at 17 different locations across the Midshore. Together they removed over 5,000 pounds of trash from rivers, streams, creeks, ditches, and community spaces.
Volunteers are being organized to create teams or join an existing team. Suggestions for public pickup sites in the Choptank, Miles, or Wye River watersheds are welcome. Please contact MRC’s Project Clean Stream coordinator, Suzanne Sullivan, at 443.385.0511 or [email protected].
