The Green Phoenix Gallery is pleased to feature mosaic artist Joanne Gelles on Friday, April 7, from 5-8 pm, during Easton’s First Friday Gallery Walk. The public is invited to meet and talk with Joanne, and watch her demonstrate how she makes her mosaics. Her creations include large mosaics made in old repurposed window frames, plus smaller vases, candle holders, mirrors and decorative objects – all infused with the special beauty and fun whimsy that the artist brings to her work.
“What inspires me to create is the natural beauty of the Eastern Shore: the trees, the water, the sky. I like to use materials that I find in my environment, like real stones, shells, sand, and sticks, and then mix them with colorful glass shapes and mirror pieces. My images are flowing and organic, touched with a bit of fantasy. My concepts come from memories, photos and sketches. What I love about the medium of mosaics is that it gives me the ability to add light to everything I create–the sunshine can make a vivid transformation of every image.”
The Green Phoenix Gallery always features a unique and beautiful selection of fine, one-of-a-kind handmade crafts by local artists, and Fair Trade gifts from around the world.
