Do you need more color and cheer in your life? Are you seeking something unique, for yourself or as a gift? November at The Green Phoenix Gallery brings all this and more, with a wide array of colorful polymer clay bead jewelry by artist Diana Hill.
Polymer clay is a synthetic modeling putty that never dries out, and is hardened in a home oven. Durable, strong and lightweight, it is comfortable to wear as jewelry. The focus of Diana’s work is creating polymer clay canes — a process which is a spinoff of the “Millefiori” Venetian glass technique. Vibrant colors of polymer clay are vertically layered to create images of tiny flowers, stars, and other designs; that when sliced from the canes are formed and applied to clay beads, pendants and other artistic forms.
Passionate about polymer clay and creativity, Hill began creating polymer clay jewelry in the 1990s after taking a course just for fun. “I fell in love with the colorful medium and its potential as a creative outlet. I was so intrigued by the analytical and technical aspects of planning and calculating unique cane patterns, I discovered that caning took me straight to my happy place – that Zen zone where all else falls away. Creating intricate designs in a pliable medium is challenging, yet fulfilling.I love working with the clay to create fun and one-of-a-kind jewelry.”
Diana hand sculpts every creation, ensuring each is like no other and is full of magic. “Inspiration is all around me and has no limit in this medium. You won’t have to worry about which item to select for your collection, it will choose you.”
Gallery owner Andi Tassencourt invites the public to The Green Phoenix on First Friday, November 2, from 5 to 8 pm, to meet Hill, see her do a demo, shop her newest works, and to enjoy some wine, yummy finger foods, good company and conversation. Says Tassencourt, “Diana’s meticulously crafted, reasonably priced, unique art jewelry is a wonderful complement to the international flavor of hand crafted works by our Fair Trade artisans, in combination with our eclectic mix of fine, artisanal crafts by local artists, and oil paintings by Diane DuBois Mullaly. All come together to offer an environment with a full range of creative arts for the community to enjoy!”
And FRIVOLOUS FIBERS Yarn Boutique, located inside The Green Phoenix Gallery, adds even more interest, featuring an ever changing collection of its own line of gorgeous, hand-spun, and hand-dyed yarns.
