Sixteen area restaurants are sponsoring the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s 2019 Dining Out Card. Together, these restaurants and other local businesses all help feed the hungry in Talbot County.
“We are so grateful to have the support of our Dining Out Card from even more local businesses in 2019,” said Alex Handy, president of the SVdP local conference.
Participating area restaurants offer discounts to patrons who buy the card. This year’s card, valid from 1/1/19 to 12/31/19,is still only $25. Patrons can use it again and again throughout the year. All proceeds from card sales go directly to help Talbot County neighbors in need.
The 2019 Dining Out Card partner restaurants are 208 Talbot, Ava’s, Banning’s Tavern, Blackthorn Irish Pub, Doc’s Downtown Grille, El Dorado Bar & Grill, Harrison’s Restaurant, Hot Off the Coals, Hunter’s Tavern, Lighthouse Oyster Bar & Grill, Limoncello Italian Restaurant, Peacock Restaurant & Lounge, Pope’s Tavern, Robert Morris Inn, Scossa and Ticklers Crab Shack & Restaurant at Wylder Hotel.
“We help people. That’s our mission,” said Handy. SVdP is an all-volunteer organization helping to feed the hungry in Talbot County. “From our own food pantry, we’re providing food for more than 25,000 meals each month,” he said.
The Maryland Food Bank designated SVdP’s pantry a Food Hub. “We network with more than a dozen local churches and other groups to help them also provide food to others,” said Handy.
From the building at 29533 Canvasback Drive in Easton, volunteers at the SVdP Thrift Center give food to those in need every Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers also collect and distribute clothing, furniture and housewares. Proceeds from items for sale at the Thrift Center are used to help people in need.
