This photo of the General Store in Bellevue, Maryland was donated to the Talbot Historical Society by the Dorchester Historical Society in 2017! Did you know that the Bellevue area is almost as old as Oxford. The town was officially laid out and named by Col. Oswald Tilghman,son-in-law of Dr. Samuel Harrison of nearby Clay’s Hope Farm! Interesting that it was either named after Col. Tilghman’s wife Belle or after an earlier Kent Island Harrison family home named “Belleview”! Facts: “From Pot Pie to Hell & Damnation” by Dr. Laurence G. Claggett 2004, CBMM.

This general store has been beautifully restored by a lovely couple and added on an addition she uses as a studio to create her beautiful tapestries. She has been commissioned by many to create one of a kind pieces. If you are in the area, stop by. They will be happy to greet you.
