On Tuesday, October 1, at 3:30 p.m., the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library invites patrons to bring the whole family in to the library for an afternoon of board games and fun educational children’s games. Young Gardeners to Learn about Gardening Indoors at Easton Library

Free Family Law Assistance Will Be Available at Easton Library
On Thursday, October 3, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, a lawyer will be available to provide free consultation to patrons on how to represent themselves and complete forms for divorce, custody, visitation, child support, name change, guardianship, adoption, and juvenile expungement. Christopher Tilghman to Discuss His Eastern Shore Saga at Easton Library
On Thursday, October 3, at 6:30 p.m., in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, Christopher Tilghman will read from and discuss the latest book—“Thomas and Beal in the Midi”—in his acclaimed Mason-Bayly family saga. The first two books in the series, “Mason’s Retreat” and “The Right-Hand Shore” were both New York Times Notable Books.
“Thomas and Beal in the Midi” tells the story of Thomas Bayly and Beal Terrell, a white landowner’s son and a black farm manager’s daughter, who fall in love as teenagers and escape to France to live as man and wife. Other books by the author include the novel “Roads of the Heart,” and the short story collections, “In a Father’s Place” and “The Way People Run.” Tilghman is a Professor of English and former Director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Virginia. He and his wife, the writer Caroline Preston, divide their time between Charlottesville and the Eastern Shore.

Free Screening of 3 Chesapeake Film Festival Documentaries at Easton Library
On Saturday, October 5, as part of the Chesapeake Film Festival and in anticipation of the library’s STEAM Festival later in October, the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library will show three award-winning science documentaries on the library’s big, professional screen.
“Science Fair,” which will be shown from 10:00 a.m. – noon, features nine high school students from different corners of the globe who navigate rivalries, setbacks, and hormones on their quest to win the international science fair. Only one can be named “Best in Fair.” This is a film that wows middle and high school students, teachers, and anyone who enjoys fantastic stories about amazing youth and their mentors.
“Conowingo Dam: Power on the Susquehanna,” showing from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m., is an MPT documentary that tells the dam’s unique story and recalls the drama and controversy that have shadowed the structure since its opening in 1928. The film explores today’s challenge of keeping debris from Pennsylvania and New York from flowing into the Chesapeake Bay. After the screening, representatives from Exelon Corporation (which owns Conowingo) and other groups will lead a discussion about the past and future of the dam.
“Saving Sea Turtles: Preventing Extinction,” which will be shown from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., relates the story of a record-breaking sea turtle stranding on Cape Cod that brought people from over 10 states and 21 institutions to save the creatures from sure death. Narrated by renowned scientist Dr. Sylvia Earle, this film shows how humans pushed a healthy population of sea turtles to the precipice of extinction and are now slowly helping it to recover. Be prepared to fall in love with the endangered Kemp’s Ridley turtle, and with the people determined to save it.
