How are the beliefs of Socrates still important today? Dip into this philosophic exploration to see for yourself! This course uses easily accessible dialogues by Plato to explore the days prior to and after the trial of Socrates as well as his defense in the face of a death sentence. Discussion will include the form and content of the dialogues as well as why Socrates has become for many the epitome of a philosopher.
Hansen earned a BA and MA in English and a PhD in Philosophy. For more than 30 years he taught courses in Greek Civilization and Classics in Western Thought. He has been a discussion leader for the The Great Books. He was also con-creator and director of a college travel program studying ancient Greek and Byzantine civilizations. After retirement, he and his wife lived in England for 10 years before moving to Easton in 2003.
