Annual Members’ Exhibition

August 20 – October 9, 2016

Members’ Reception and Judge’s Awards: Friday, August 19, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The Museum is pleased to present its Annual Members’ Exhibition. This exceptional tradition represents the best of the region’s artists and offers an opportunity to view the creative talents of colleagues and friends. Each member has the opportunity to show one piece.

ARTS EXPRESS BUS TRIPS

Day in DC at the National Gallery of Art – In Celebration of Paul Mellon

Cost: $55 Members, $66 Non-members

The exhibition features 80 of the finest pastels, watercolors, drawings, prints, and illustrated books selected from Paul Melon’s donations, celebrating both his wonderful generosity and his distinctive approach to collecting.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS

Art After Dark: Cocktails and Canvas

Wednesday, September 28, 6 – 8pm and Thursday, December 1, 6 – 8pm

Cost: $45 (Includes two cocktails and all painting material)

Experience a fun and creative evening where you don’t need an artistic bone in your body. You bring your energy and creativity and we provide everything else.

 

ADULT WORKSHOPS & CLASSES

Seasonal Botanicals

Two-day graphite and watercolors workshop: September 24 and 25, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Printmaking Workshop: More Monoprint

Instructor: Rosemary Cooley

September 9, 10 and 11, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Cost: $150 Museum members/$180 Non-Museum members

Materials Fee, payable to instructor at first class: $35.00 (includes inks, paper, one archival mat, and use of PETG plates as well as many tools: applicators, brushes, stamps and stencils for creating different effects)

In addition, a variety of adult classes and workshops are offered this fall in plein air painting, basic drawing, figure drawing, drawing using negative space, pastel painting, head painting, oil painting, mentored painting session, watercolor, pottery, garden photography, introduction to digital photography, iPhone/Android Smartphones, Movies, Music and TV on iPhones, organizing, storing and sharing photos with Your Smart Phone, Art on Tablets and the iPad, and YOGA for Creativity.

 

CHILDRENS’ PROGRAMS/CLASSES

Mini Masters Academy

Mini Masters Academy, an Early Enrichment Program for children ages 2 to 4 in partnership with the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center, introduces young children to new ideas through a thematic approach to learning that emphasizes relationships and the ability to make meaningful connections.  It teaches a basic life skill … how to learn … and focuses on strategies and techniques that can be applied to almost any encounter with the unknown. We are now accepting deposits for the 2016 – 2017 school year. Complete information packets are available at the Museum. Home School Art Classes

Early Fall Session: September 9 – October 14, Ages 6 to 9 years/Late Fall Session: October 21 – December 9 (Note that there are NO classes on November 11 or November 25) Ages 6 to 9 years

Fridays, 1-2:30 p.m.

Cost (per session): $90 Museum members/$108 Non-Museum members. Siblings attend for $60 Museum members/$72 Non-Museum members

Preregistration is advised as space is limited in each group.

 

After-School Art Club

Grades 4 through 7

Instructor: Susan Horsey

Eight Thursdays: September 22 – November 17 (No class on November 10), 3:45 – 5:00 p.m.

Cost: $115 Museum member/$138 Non-Museum member

 

Li’l Kids After-School Art Club

Ages 6-8

Instructor: Susan Horsey

Eight Wednesdays: September 21 – November 16 (no class on November 9), 3:45 – 5:00 p.m.

Cost: $115 Museum members/$138 Non-Museum members

Other children’s classes are offered to students in Flash Animation and Fun with Photoshop.
