This month, the Academy Art Museum welcomed new Trustees Margaret (“Peg”) D. Keller of Easton, Catherine “Cathy” Collins McCoy of Oxford, John M. Pinney of St. Michaels and Washington, DC, David W. Tuthill of Oxford, and Marilyn Weiner of Easton, while honoring retiring Trustees Katherine Gilson of Oxford, Rick Scobey of Easton and Washington, DC, Tom Seip of Easton, Vice Chairman Al Sikes of Easton, Judy Stansbury of Easton and Baltimore, and Chairman Kay Perkins of St. Michaels.
Peg Keller has contributed to and supported a variety of organizations on the Eastern Shore. She has been active on the Board of the Talbot County Health Association, the Health Planning Council of the Eastern Shore, the Board of the Talbot County Historical Society, the Executive Committee of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, Christmas in St. Michaels, the St. Michaels Community Center, the Bay 100 Foundation, the Critchlow Atkins Children’s Center, National Trout Unlimited, the Coldwater Conservation Fund, the Summit Garden Club, the Talbot County Garden Club, the Garden Club of the Eastern Shore, and the Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage.
Cathy McCoy, a retired corporate and securities lawyer, spent the first half of her DC career on the staff of the U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission and later served as General Counsel and Deputy Executive Director of the National Commission on Fraudulent Financial Reporting. She retired from the Washington, DC law firm of Arnold & Porter. Most recently, she served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Oxford Community Center.
John M. Pinney has worked in the Office of the Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, the National Council on Alcoholism, and Harvard University’s Institute for the Study of Smoking Behavior and Policy. Currently, he is Chief Executive Officer of Pinney Associates, Inc., a Bethesda, MD-based consulting firm providing scientific, regulatory, and policy services to the pharmaceutical industry. In 2014, Pinney Associates celebrated 25 years of success in helping clients get FDA approval of numerous medications to improve public health and patient wellbeing. He has served on the Board of the Center for Advancing Health, the Board of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, and the St. Andrew’s School Alumni Corporation. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Board of the Northwest Settlement House, an inner city social service agency in Washington, DC.
David W. Tuthill spent over 25 years in various financial leadership positions in Washington, DC, including the National Housing Partnership, where he worked under the direction of Warren Buffett. With the sale of NHP, he moved on to become Comptroller of Carr America. In 2012, Dave and his wife founded Hearthstone Health and Fitness in Easton. He was a Board Member of the Talbot County Historical Society and is very active in the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Dave has spoken on Capitol Hill before the Conference for a Healthier America and has lobbied Congress for several bills affecting the fitness industry.
Marilyn Weiner, along with her partner/husband, Hal Weiner, has produced over 225 documentaries, four PBS series, and three feature films. Her current television series, “Journey To Planet Earth,” is a prime-time environmental program. She is among the world’s most honored documentary filmmakers. She has served as a DC Commissioner for the Arts and Humanities, on the Board of Directors of Filmfest DC, the Committee To Promote Washington DC, the Washington Urban League, Women-In-Film, and the Woolly Mammoth Theater Company. She has been President of the Washington Film Council, Vice-President of Women-In-Film, consultant to the National Commission on Working Women, Chairperson of the Advisory Committee to the Washington Office of Motion Picture Development, and Panelist for both the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Dennis McFadden, executive director of the Academy Art Museum, comments, “The men and women who serve as Trustees of the Academy Art Museum give generously of their time and energy to ensure that the Museum is responsibly managed, that we serve our community, and that we carefully steward the resources that have been entrusted to the Museum. We are grateful for their contributions. We honor those members who are retiring, while welcoming new faces to our board.”
The Museum recently honored retiring Trustees Katherine Gilson (2009-2012 / 2012-2015), Rick Scobey (2009-2012 / 2012-2015), Tom Seip (2009-2012 / 2012-2015), Vice Chairman Al Sikes’ (2008-2011 / 2011-2015), Judy Stansbury (2009-2012 / 2012-2015), and Chairman Kay Perkins (2008-2011 / 2011-2015). Outgoing Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Kay Perkins, who served as interim Director of the Museum from August 1, 2014 – January 31, 2015 while a search was underway for the new director, comments, “It is my joy to express my sincere gratitude to the five Trustees, who with me, are completing our final terms of office. The dedication and selfless commitment of these volunteers are exemplary.”
