Over 500 people attended the Academy Art Museum’s recent opening of its annual Mid-Shore Student Art Exhibition, highlighting the artistic talents of students in kindergarten through eighth grades from Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, and Queen Anne’s counties. Works include a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and printmaking. The exhibition will be on display through March 10, 2013.
The Mid-Shore Student Art Exhibitions have been a Museum tradition for over 22 years and are the largest and most prestigious student art exhibitions on the Eastern Shore. This year, Dick Blick Art Materials of Philadelphia provided art supplies which were given out as door prizes at the event. An exhibition featuring the artwork of high school students in grades nine through twelve on the Mid-Shore will be held March 14 through March 31, 2013, with Opening Reception on Thursday, March 14, from 5:30 to7 p.m.
On Wednesday, March 27, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Museum will host its second annual Portfolio Night for new and returning students. Representatives from several area art colleges, including the Delaware College of Art and Design, the Corcoran, Salisbury University, The Schuler School of Fine Arts, and the University of Maryland-Baltimore College, will review student work and offer pointers for strengthening student portfolios. Professional working artists will be on hand to share their experiences as well. The Museum will offer free art supply samples to all participants courtesy of Dick Blick Art Materials in Philadelphia. Reservations are required. Email Constance Del Nero at [email protected].
