The Academy Art Museum has announced that on Friday, September 25, 2014 at 6 p.m., the Kittredge-Wilson Speaker Series will kick off its fall lecture series with a lecture by Joan Breton Connelly, PhD, Professor of Classics and Art History at New York University. Dr. Connelly will present a lecture on her most recent book, “The Parthenon Enigma: A New Understanding of the West’s Most Iconic Building and the People Who Made It.”
Joan Breton Connelly is a field archaeologist who has excavated throughout Greece, Kuwait, and Cyprus. She has pioneered “eco-archaeology,” integrating archaeological and ecological research toward the preservation of both cultural and natural resources. In 1996, Connelly won a MacArthur Foundation Award for pushing the boundaries of her field through her innovative work in Greek art, myth, and religion. Her books include “Portrait of a Priestess: Women and Ritual in Ancient Greece (Princeton, 2007)” and “The Parthenon Enigma: A New Understanding of the West’s Most Iconic Building and the People who Made It (Knopf, 2014).” Professor Connelly has been honored with numerous awards and fellowships.
The Series Ticket for (4) Lectures in the Kittredge-Wilson Speaker Series is $50 for Museum members and $65 for Non-Museum members.
