With this May’s annual spring fundraiser, “Celebrate the Genius of Duke Ellington,” the Academy Art Museum is celebrating over 20 years of volunteerism in raising funds to benefit the Museum’s year-round outreach and education programs. The event, which kicks off with a performance at the Avalon Theatre, cocktails at the Waterfowl Building, followed by fine dining in artful settings at the Museum, involves hours of volunteer work. Dozens of volunteers begin a year ahead of time, providing assistance with the event’s entertainment, mailings, decorations, catering, and logistics.
For the second year, Judy Stansbury has coordinated details as Event Chairman while Henry Stansbury, her husband, has served as Major Gifts Chairman. Beth Jones, Director of Development and Membership at the Academy Art Museum comments, “Our Spring event is a complex undertaking that not only showcases the Museum, but also serves as our largest fundraiser of the year. We are very grateful to draw on a longstanding tradition of volunteerism here. This year, over 85 volunteers have helped to create an unforgettable evening.”
Signature sponsors for this year’s event include Henry and Judy Stansbury, PNC Wealth Management, and Bruce Wiltsie and Bill Davenport. The Museum also gratefully acknowledges Wilmington Trust as this year’s Corporate Sponsor. Corporate Patrons include The Avon Dixon Agency, Easton Utilities, Guilford & Company, and Agency Insurance Company. Special supporters also include Ann and Richard Cooper of Table Manners, who for many years have generously underwritten the table linens for each Spring Event.
