Students will explore native plants and animals in their winter environment when Adkins Arboretum offers Winter Naturalists, a series of science programs for homeschool families.
In this six-week program, homeschool students will join Youth Program Coordinator Jenny Houghton in collecting data about winter animal activity at the Arboretum, conducting insulation experiments, constructing bird shelters and identifying food sources for white-tailed deer. Activities also include creating winter nature journals, visiting a fox den and identifying trees by their bark and branches.
Designed for students ages 8 to 12, Winter Naturalists will meet Fridays, Jan. 23 to Feb. 27, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Advance registration is required. The fee is $55 for members, $70 for non-members for all six classes in the series. A $10 discount is offered for siblings. Enrollment is limited, so early registration is recommended. For more information or to register, visit adkinsarboretum.org or call 410-634-2847, ext. 0.
