Compass Regional Hospice is forming a new 10-week grief support group for adults 18 years and older who have experienced the death of a loved one. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 22, 2016, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 200 S. 5th Avenue in Denton. The group will meet every Tuesday through May 24. Participants are asked to commit to attending all 10 sessions in order to benefit the most from the group.
The grief support group will be co-facilitated by Ann OConnor, LCSW-C, and Wayne Larrimore, MEd, grief counselors for Compass Regional Hospice.
“Our grief groups are a combination of education and support,” says Larrimore. “The group becomes a place for people to meet others who have experienced the death of a parent, child, sibling, spouse or friend.”
Larrimore adds, “In this confidential and intimate setting participants will have a chance to say things they might feel uncomfortable saying to family and friends. Together, with facilitation from the leaders, the group members share ways to cope with their changed situation, realizing that grieving and adjusting to new ways of living take time.”
A $25 enrollment fee covers the cost of materials. No one will be turned away based on inability to pay.
