Christ Church Easton announces the opening of its 2016-2017 after school music program for children ages four through sixth grade. The program meets every Monday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. beginning September 12. There is no cost but pre-registration is encouraged.
This after school program is broken into three age categories – age four through first grade, grades two through three, and grades four through six. The program is an affiliate of the Royal School of Church Music and utilizes a range of learning experiences to build a lifelong love of music. The curriculum offers choral music, an introduction to handbell ringing, Orff instrument playing, and musical activities to build skills and foster musical development. Through this approach, students learn not only the basics of music, but they are equipped to perform music from a variety of backgrounds. As children progress through the program, they are awarded medals which indicate levels of achievements. The medals are then worn each time the student performs with his or her choir.
The Christ Church afterschool music program, formally named Connect Kids, also offers activities which involve or welcome entire families. This year, students in the program will have the opportunity to perform a Christmas concert as well as an end-of-the-year musical in which students will be involved not only in the performance roles, but also in the preparation of set and other aspects of drama. A favorite tradition for many families is the Advent Wreath Making Night Dinner. This particular event welcomes the entire family to join with other families in making their own live Advent wreath which they take home after sharing dinner with other families connected to this popular program.
