Don’t miss your chance to attend a screening of the “Director’s Cut” of Another Dawn:Tilghman in Transition before the edited version airs on Maryland Public Television this spring. The second documentary in this series of films about the watermen of Tilghman Island will be shown Saturday, February 15th at 5pm at the Historical Society of Easton, 22 S. Washington Street. A discussion with some of the “stars” of the film will follow the screening, which is free and open to the public.
The daily work of the watermen of Tilghman Island is “in their blood.” But they are facing challenges by the changing environment, decreasing bounty, and increasing regulations and expenses, forcing many to seek other work. As former waterman Graham Sherwood put it, “I knew I had to sell the boat and get rid of the license or I would go back. It pulls you right back to it.” Produced by the Tilghman Watermen’s Museum, Another Dawn tells the story of how Tilghman’s watermen and their families are adapting to their new reality while working to maintain their traditions and character.
Following the screening Hall Kellogg, Executive Director of the Tilghman Watermen’s museum, will be joined by local watermen and women Roy Sadler, Graham Sherwood, Russell Dize and Debbie Sherwood, along with moderator Chris Spurry for a conversation about the history, and current reality, of the waterman’s life. DVDs of the film will be available for purchase at the screening.
For more information, or to schedule an interview with any of the panel participants, please contact Mary Kellogg at the Tilghman Watermen’s Museum at 410-886-2930 or [email protected].
