Mary Handley will be the speaker for the April 6, 2015 Brown Bag Lunch at the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library at noon. Ms. Handley will relay the remarkable story of Annie Oakley (Little Miss Sure Shot) who once lived in and enjoyed Dorchester County and the Eastern Shore. Her story is that of a remarkable journey of an impoverished young girl with a remarkable talent that brought her fame and travel to many countries and cities. Her compassion for others and her unusual “tricks” have made her one of history’s most beloved and unique women. She shared her life with her husband of 50 years and her beloved dog Dave.
Mary Handley is a senior advocate representing the Maryland Dept. of Aging and is a mobility manager with Delmarva Community Services Inc. She has a passion for local history and has been telling the story of Annie Oakley for over 20 years. In her spare time, she serves as a crew member on the Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester. The Brown Bag Lunch events are sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Bring a lunch and enjoy coffee and dessert provided by the library. All library programs are free and open to the public. For more information you can call (410) 745-5877 or visit the library website at www.tcfl.org.
