April is Talbot County Junior Achievement Financial Literacy Month, recognizing Junior Achievement’s impact on students in the area.
The Talbot County Council presented Junior Achievement (JA) of Talbot County with a proclamation at their April 14, 2015 meeting and the Town of Easton made a similar presentation on April 20, 2015 that April of this year, Talbot County and the Town of Easton will be known as “Junior Achievement Financial Literacy Month.”
Founded in 1919, JA is an international organization dedicated to educating students about work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. Professionals from a variety of career fields volunteer their time to teach and mentor participating students. Professionally developed, age-appropriate JA programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace.
JA of Talbot County was established in 2011, and is led by a passionate advisory board of local professionals chaired by Geoff Oxnam of Easton Utilities Commission.
“We are truly grateful to Talbot County and the Town of Easton for supporting the establishment and continued development of Junior Achievement in Talbot County,” said Mr. Oxnam. “Their unwavering belief in our mission and the impact financial literacy has on our community has helped us reach 2,500 students countywide in just three years. The ability for us to have an entire month dedicated to our mission will promote the JA program to a wider audience, which will only result in greater awareness and support for the work and impact we are making on our area youth.”

Junior Achievement (JA) of Talbot County, based on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, is a branch of a national organization dedicated to educating students about financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness skills.
