Chesapeake Fire & Ice Needs Children’s Icehouse Participants

The Easton EDC is reaching out to the community to find interested participants in our new Chesapeake Fire & Ice venue, The Children’s Icehouse! The festival, planned for February 16 and 17, 2024, is in its fourth year and attracting thousands of participants. To make the event even more fun and inclusive for our families, event organizers are creating an indoor space for activities. The Children’s Icehouse will be full of interactive activities for the kids (and a place for grownups to get warm too!).

This incredible festival downtown will feature dozens of ice sculptures spread throughout Easton’s historic district. Friday night will kick off with live ice carvings, music, and restaurant specials. The celebration will feature free live music and fire performances, outdoor ice skating, and the unveiling of the weekend’s ice sculptures with a free self-guided tour and light display.

December First Friday Weekend Events in Easton

Easton First Friday Gallery Walk and Fall Kickoff

The Fall Kickoff weekend begins with the First Friday Gallery Walk on Friday, October 6.  Gallery talks, live music, the art of fire juggling, and more will start the weekend off with a festive and creative flair! Friday night’s outdoor fun  will begin with live music and  carving demonstrations of giant pumpkins by the artists at Icelab. Carvings will be at approximately 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 PM throughout the downtown area.

New this year, a tablescaping competition will be held throughout the town. Featuring gorgeous displays of china, linens, and other artistic elements, these tables are works of art! Come see the fantastical designs featuring the theme, “Autumn on the Chesapeake.” Featured designers include Set the Table for Me, Hummingbird Inn, The Tidewater Inn, Legal Assets/Welcome Home, Dwelling and Design, Sanctuary Interiors, Agave Arts & Juicing Co, Modern Bulldog and more! In conjunction with this event, everyone is invited to celebrate with the Trippe Gallery!  The month of October marks their 10th anniversary. There will be a special reception on October 6th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Throughout October, the gallery will be featuring works based on a theme of “10” to commemorate the anniversary.

Troika Gallery will also open a new exhibit featuring the work of Bill Storck. This popular maritime artist has sold hundreds of paintings over the years, and his work just keeps getting better. Storck strives to integrate the water, the wind, the sky and sailing vessels into carefully balanced images. Meet the artists at a reception on Friday from 4-6 pm.

Children are welcome to join in the fun by enjoying the art of fire juggling by Cascading Carlos, who will be performing from 5-7 in Thompson park following the live pumpkin carving. Families are also welcome to bring the kiddos to the Academy Art museum for free pumpkin paintings, a free bicycle helmet safety check by Talbot Thrive, and the last outdoor movie night of the season, “A Nightmare Before Christmas.” All children’s activities are free.

In conjunction with the festival, retailers and restaurants will be hosting a variety of tasting events, sales, and live music performances.  Visitors will be provided with a Pumpkin Trail map featuring all of the locations of the giant pumpkins! Maps will be available online at our festival site or picked up at the Easton Visitor’s Center, 11 S. Harrison Street, Easton MD.

Easton’s Fall Kickoff Weekend Set for Oct 6 & 7

The Easton Economic Development Corporation (Easton EDC) is excited to announce a full line-up of free kids activities during the 2023 Fall Kickoff weekend October 6 & 7!

Friday night will kick off with live carvings of giant pumpkins by the incredible artists at Icelab. Watch in amazement as hundred-plus pound pumpkins get changed into fabulous works of art! Carvings will be at approximately 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 PM. Check maps for locations.

Also on Friday, bring the family to the Academy Art Museum for lots of free activities. Pumpkin painting on the lawn will be from 5:30-7:00. Bring your bike helmet for a safety fitting check by Talbot Thrive and receive a free bike light. At dusk, enjoy the last Discover Easton Outdoor Family Movie Night presents “A Nightmare Before Christmas” in the courtyard.

On Saturday, families can enjoy the complete giant pumpkin trail all throughout town!  Storytime will also feature fun fall themes at Flying Cloud Books and the Talbot County Free Library. Don’t miss the Talbot Humane Kissing Booth as you stroll around town listening to the free outdoor live music. Easton Bowl will feature free shoe rentals all weeknd! Easton Airport will host the 14th annual Easton Airport Day on Saturday, October 14. The annual event is a fun-filled gathering that offers a unique opportunity to visit the community airfield and see what flying is all about.

Formation flyovers highlight the event with “Warbirds” flying patterns over the skies of Talbot County. The world-famous Rubber Chicken Drop Contest will return to delight the crowd as pilots attempt to hit the bed of a pickup truck while flying over the airport. Food vendors will be on site.
