Kevin Fitzgerald, Recent Paintings at Troika Gallery

May 29, 2021 by Troika Gallery

Sand Bar Distance, 36 x 48, oil on canvas, by Kevin Fitzgerald.

Recent Paintings, a Troika Gallery exhibit featuring new oil landscape paintings by artist Kevin Fitzgerald opens on June 4, 2021, during Easton’s First Friday Gallery Walk. Meet the artist from 5 to 7 pm.

Fitzgerald’s paintings are highly sought after and known for their timeless and ethereal quality. Kevin has a great reverence for the land and sea and fully expresses it in his tonalist paintings characterized by neutral hues, muted atmospheric tones, and mystery. “Be brief, use the least to say the most. To gain the particular is to lose the infinite. Painting is a solitary communication and strives to go beyond words,” Fitzgerald comments.

Inspired by French mid 19th-century romantic landscape painters, Fitzgerald’s paintings are evocative and spiritual. His fields of color are both suggestions and subtle depictions.

Kevin studied with Raoul Middleman at the Maryland Institute College of Art and pursued his M.F.A., under a full fellowship at George Washington University. An educator and painter, his work is collected by a former president, known celebrities and private collectors both here and abroad.

Art by all of the Troika Gallery Artists is on display with new work constantly refreshing the gallery’s exhibition spaces. Bronzes, oils, pastels, ceramics, porcelain, watercolors, pencil drawings and commissioned portraits are a hallmark of Troika Gallery which features The Finest of Fine Art.

Troika Gallery at 9 South Harrison Street, is open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11 am to 6 pm, or by appointment. For more information, visit troikagallery.com. Kevin Fitzgerald, Recent Paintings is on view until August 3, 2021.

Troika Gallery Owner, Laura Era Commissioned by State of Maryland for Professional Portrait

November 15, 2020 by Troika Gallery

Troika Gallery owner, Laura Era, was recently commissioned by the Maryland State Department of the Military for a professional portrait of a retiring United States National Guard Major General.

Responding to an invitation for proposal in the fall of 2019, Laura Era began the detailed process of applying for the contract. The highly competitive selection process required an in person interview at The Armory in Baltimore as well as five written references and a sample original oil portrait. After a thorough evaluation by the Selection Committee, Laura was notified in early spring that she was the chosen artist. She was selected from a large pool of professional portrait artists within the state.

Major General (retired) Linda Singh, by Laura Era, oil on linen, 36 x 30.

Once chosen, the contract revealed that the portrait was for General Linda Singh who was retiring from active duty. Laura set up an appointment to meet and photograph Major Singh at Troika Gallery.

Working at her painting studio on the Little Choptank River in Cambridge, Laura began the portrait using color notes as well as her photos of the retiring General. The three quarter size portrait with hands and background includes ornate military regalia earned by the General. The American, Bosnian and Astonian flags depict the areas of service in which M.G. Linda Singh served her country.

Framed in classic gold, the 36 x 30 oil painting is now at the Fifth Regiment Armory, on Division Street in Baltimore among other notable United States National Guard retirees. M. G. Singh is the first woman and General of color to have a portrait hung in The Armory.

Renowned in her field, and admired for her excellent portraiture, Laura Era was recently asked to paint a portrait for the Frederick Douglass room at The Talbot County Free Library. The donated oil painting was unveiled during the annual Douglass Celebration this past fall.

Troika Gallery exhibits the fine portraiture of Laura Era. For more information visit troikagallery.com or lauraera.com.
