Building African American Minds (BAAM) Inc. hosted its second annual BAAM Fest on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Idlewild Park in Easton, MD. Over Over 647 people attended The BAAM Fest, celebrating the partners BAAM has collaborated with in helping African American males become productive, confident citizens through positive academic, social, emotional, and spiritual experiences as children and young men.
Among BAAM’s partners who participated in this year’s BAAM Festival are Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center, the Neighborhood Service Center, the Talbot County Department of Social Services, Talbot County Early Head Start, Talbot County Hunger Coalition, Talbot County Free Library, For All Seasons, Mid-Shore WIC, the Easton Police Department, Shore Regional Breast Center, YMCA of the Chesapeake, Chesapeake College – Multicultural Affairs, University of MD Extension Talbot County 4H, Little Creek Kung Fu, Maryland Coalition of Families for Children’s Mental Health, Choices for Life Pregnancy Center, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Imagination Library of Talbot County, TriLife Christian Center, Academy Art Museum, Chesapeake College – Adult Education, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, and the Town of Easton.
There were informational booths, musical entertainment by the Bowie-based band The Exclusives and DJ Randy, dancing by Easton Elementary School Hot Tigerz as well as One Love Step & Dance group from Queen Anne’s County, giveaways and door prizes, face painting, a clown show, a basketball tournament, and a dance contest. Free food was provided by Frase’s Meat Shop of Preston, offering hot dogs, burgers, pulled pork sandwiches and side dishes. Additional community partner donations came from the Town of Easton, Easton Utilities, Shearer the Jeweler, Bob Evans, The News Center, Miranda’s, Kiln Born Creations, Fade2Black Barber Shop, Acme, BJ ’s, Cambridge & Easton Premier Cinemas, Dairy Queen, Daly Family, DJ Randy, Doc ’s Downtown Grille, Short Family, Easton Bowling Alley, Easton Hardware, Fitness Rx, Food Lion, Giant, Hill’ s Drug Store, Outlaw ’s Barbershop, Orion Safety Products, Papa Johns, Pepsi Bottling Ventures, Polished Nail, Safeway, Sandy Franz, Spurry ’s Tire Service, Staples, Swank, The Barn, Walmart, Earth Origins, Jiffy Lube, Jenny’s Nailz, and Star’s Beauty Salon.
