Local Port of Art (LPOA) in downtown St. Michaels is featuring the enchanted works of Lisa Skibenes in January.
Lisa Skibenes is an innovative artist who works in a variety of tactile media to create fanciful creations. Using natural and found objects — and inspiration from mystical and inspirational quotes — Lisa creates magical pieces of mosaic art, including fairy houses, hanging designs, embellished furniture, and three-dimensional sculptures. She also creates gorgeous colorful art using alcohol inks on ceramic tiles, which allow her to create striking scenes and abstracts.
A native New Yorker, Lisa moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in September 2013 and immediately immersed herself in the area’s rich artistic community. Since then, she has studied watercolor with local artists Heather Crow and Sandy Alanko, and mosaic art with both Sue Stockman and Jennifer Wagner Campbell.
Lisa says her mosaic work “is a pathway to pleasure and meditation for herself and a passage to an enchanted landscape, lightness of spirit, and joyfulness for the viewer.”
Lisa will be teaching a class at Local Port of Art in January where you will learn a new technique of painting on ceramic tiles with alcohol inks. Come join us on Saturday, January 9, from 11 am to 1 pm, as you enjoy creating a vibrant design in this fun and flexible medium.
The $35 class fee includes all materials and a beverage (please bring a sack lunch). Pre-registration is required, so call 410-745-2420 to sign up.
