How is it that June has slipped right by and we are now on the cusp of celebrating our nation’s birthday. As the 4th of July falls on a Wednesday this year, the festivities begin this weekend and run clear through next week. If you are so inclined, and weather permitting, you can catch pyrotechnic displays in St Michaels on Saturday, Oxford on Tuesday, and Wednesday in Easton.
Ready for some nighttime family fun? The Easton Carnival opens Thursday evening with rides, games, prizes and of course all that lovely food. The carnival continues through the fourth, when the Grandsons and the Joe Martone Band will perform, followed at dusk by Easton’s fine fireworks display.
And attention – all you Antiques Roadshow fans; Maryland Public Television’s (MPT) Chesapeake Collectibles professionals will be at the Avalon Theatre this Saturday to appraise grandpa’s watch, that old painting above the couch, and whatever else you think is of value. You may even be asked to appear on a future episode. Reservations required, see below for info.

This is a very good article and very informative about the Independence Day celebrations and festivities going on in the area.
However, I would like to make one clarification. While the Town of St. Michaels does an awful lot for its citizens, it does not sponsor the fireworks. The fireworks are produced by the St. Michael’s Fireworks Fund an independent organization. They are made possible by the generosity of individuals and businesses in the area. These contributions go to produce the fireworks and support the St. Michael’s Fire Department.
It costs over $20,000 to produce the fireworks, and we still need financial support for this year. Tax-deductible contributions can be sent to the St. Michael’s Fireworks Fund at 606 N. Talbot St., Suite 123, St. Michaels, MD 21663.
