Here’s a cool idea; the Chesapeake College Peake Players kick off their 10th annual audience participation murder mystery dinner theatre this Friday with “Marriage, Murder, and Mayhem.” Not sure about marriage, but we’ll bet this heat aggravates the murder and mayhem tendencies in many. The temperature should be fine in the theatre; even though tempers may flare on stage – or is this a cool, calculating murderer? The show continues weekends through July 22.
Saturday – if you’re looking for some good old-fashioned and free fun, the Wye House is hosting a Vintage Base Ball Festival. Teams play according to vintage baseball rules of 1864. There will be an “everyone play” game open to children of all ages, plenty of other games, and plenty of food. Wye House grounds will be open for tours, and the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will have a boat at the dock offering rides.
Saturday evening there is more family-friendly free entertainment on Washington Street in Easton; a big band jazz concert with the US Navy Commodores. The show is one of a series of Avalon Foundation Summer Outdoor Concerts, which run through early September.
Looking ahead, on Monday you can have a chat with Major General Robert Ross, who routed the American troops at Bladensburg and burned Washington, DC. This event, part of the Chautauqua 2012 – Inspiration, Unity, Preparedness, Courage: Maryland and the War of 1812, continues Tuesday, July 10 with Rosalie Stier Calvert (Londonderry Retirement Community), and culminates Wednesday, July 11 with Francis Scott Key (Idlewild Park). What a great way to have the kids (and you) interact with history!
