As a new addition to the PleinAir-Easton! festivities, the Wye Operetta Workshop (WOW) will be performing ” H.M.S. Pinafore,” (or The Lass That Loved a Sailor), at the Avalon. Gilbert and Sullivan’s first hit, and still extremely popular, the show is a social satire on English class snobbery, social hypocrisy, politics and the Royal Navy. WOW was started in 2008 in an effort to introduce young people to classical theatre. The performance is great for, as they say, ” kids of all ages.”

Don’t forget Saturday is the kick-off day for the governor’s Buy Local Challenge week. “I pledge to eat at least one thing from a local farm every day during Buy Local Week.” (Why not do that every week?) Plenty of farmer’s markets to choose from: Saturday and Wednesday mornings in Easton; Saturday morning in St Michaels; Wednesday late afternoon in Oxford; and of course all of those individual stands dotting the countryside.
If you’re looking for a break from all that art, we highly recommend checking out comedian Mickey Cucchiella, in town for a two night stand at the NightCat. Their website says that his, “… unique style is hard to pinpoint, although some have said he’s an interesting cross between Sam Kinison, Dennis Leary, and Billy Idol.”
And on Sunday, Easton’s downtown galleries are hosting a special Gallery Walk; a progressive brunch of sorts as visitors view art exhibits. Feast on seasonal pastries, bagel and cream cheese, french toast casserole, fresh fruit, ham & biscuits, quiche…obviously no need to cook lunch (or breakfast if you’re a late riser).
