The teaching partners are back! Bishop Joel Marcus Johnson and Rabbi Peter E. Hyman are offering a four-week course on the biblical book of Exodus. The sessions will be held in the banquet room at Scossa Restaurant. Light lunch will be served by Chef Giancarlo Tondin.
The sessions will be held at Noon on four consecutive Thursdays, starting October 25, and continuing November 1, 8 and 15. Scossa is located at 8 North Washington Street.
“We teach our courses as history and literature,” the Bishop said. “We want to help people move out of traditional flat-line reading, to gain a three-dimensional understanding of the text and its time.”
Although not required, students may wish to purchase a copy of Exploring Exodus: The Origins of Biblical Israel, by Nahum M. Sarna. New and used copies are readily available on-line. A study guide will be provided.
Hyman is Rabbi of Temple B’nai Israel, Easton, and Johnson is Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of The Chesapeake. This is their sixth occasion teaching together, their previous courses covering Genesis 1-11, and the Jewish roots of the Christian gospels.
The cost of the course is $50 for all four sessions, payable to Temple B’nai Israel. The price of lunch, including beverage and gratuity, is $15, payable at each session.
Seating is limited. To register, call Wanda at Temple B’nai Israel, 410-822-0553.
