Carole Boggemann-Peirson has been selected as the featured artist for the 31st Fine Arts @ Oxford, a annual juried exhibition and sale which benefits the Oxford Community Center in Oxford, MD. Her display will be located front-and-center at the entrance to the event on May 15-17, 2015 and her serene painting entitled “Moving Moment” graces the event poster and other promotional material. Fine Arts @ Oxford opens with a festive preview gala on Friday evening from6 to 8 p.m.; in addition to a first peek at six galleries of art, guests will enjoy scrumptious savory and sweet nibbles, live entertainment and full bar offerings. The show and sale continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; attendees accustomed to indulging in delicious homemade luncheon fare and strawberry shortcake won’t be disappointed. Raffle tickets will be on sale throughout the weekend, and upwards of twenty-five pieces of art will go home with their lucky winners on Sunday; hourly drawings will begin at noon.
Boggemann-Peirson began her art career in graphics upon earning a degree in Design & Communication at the Ichthus Polytechnic in Rotterdam. An internship in Virginia prompted her first visit to the States and a glimpse of life in a rural setting. While work in a busy advertising agency in her native Holland proved both challenging and lucrative, Boggemann-Peirson moved back to the Eastern Shore of Virginia in the summer of 2000 and became inspired enough by the naturally peaceful and beautiful area to begin studying oil painting with the late Joe Adams. A well-known and respected painter, Adams, himself, was a successful Fine Arts @ Oxford exhibitor for several years before his death; he introduced Boggemann-Peirson to the event. She was first juried into it in 2005, and has been continuously since.
Initially exclusively a studio artist, Boggemann-Peirson was admired and sought out for the classical underpainting and glazing techniques which yield richly luminous pieces. Though she continues to employ and to teach this traditional method on occasion, she began dabbling in plein air work in 2007 and feels it informs and improves her studio work. Always growing and learning, she has taken plein air workshops with renowned artists Tracey Frugoli, Roger Dale Brown, Bethanne Kinsella Cople, Gavin Brooks and John Brandon Sills. A portrait and figure workshop with Scott Tallman Powers and one in still life with Maggie Siner have further broadened her artistic horizons.
Boggemann-Peirson was awarded “Best in Show” by noted artist Camille Przewodek at Local Color in 2012, and was juried into the prestigious Plein Air Easton the following year. She is honored to be included in the newly-published 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic, and has work in international commercial and private collections. Her solo exhibit hung at Murphy-Montgomery Gallery (Newport News, VA) in April; she will be co-featured (with Lois Engberg, also exhibiting at FA@O) at Bishop’s Stock (Snow Hill, MD) in August.
Since 2004, Boggemann-Peirson has taught regular weekly classes at ESO (Belle Haven, VA), as well as workshops and private lessons. Her home studio has recently been approved for inclusion in Virginia’s Eastern Shore Artisan Trail, and initial plans are underway for a future workshop (maximum of 10 students) to be held at the Oxford Community Center. Additional information will be available at FA@O, but interested participants may e-mail contact information to[email protected]; class specifics will be disseminated as they develop.
Advance purchase of Fine Arts @ Oxford Preview Gala tickets ($80 per person) is recommended; in addition to attendance at the spirited and entertaining evening, each includes event entrance for the full weekend.
