Professor Dale Glenwood Green of Morgan State University will be the Brown Bag Lunch speaker at the St. Michaels Library on Monday, Feb 3, 2014 at noon. Professor Green will speak in reference to the history of The Hill Community as part of the annual observance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.
“We should emphasize not Negro history but the Negro in history. What we need is not a history of selected races or nations, but the history of the world void of national bias, race, hate & religious prejudice.” – Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Historian
The above quote best illustrates the message and reason the month of February was chosen for Black History Month. It marked the birthday of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
The Friends of the Library are sponsors of the speaker series and everyone is invited to bring lunch and enjoy coffee and dessert provided by the library. All library programs are free and open to the public. For more information you can check the library website at www.tcfl.org or call (410) 745-5877.
